Maybe but could be missing alot more if Academy Team try out process does not become unbiased as is the case with Match Fit and PDA. In which tryouts are listed on website then are arbitarily changed and not all registered participants are notified then when the unnotified participants find out through parent sideline chatter and turn-up later are judged on one tryout while the notified pool get multiple chances to be evaluated (PDA). Also when scheduled tryouts are completed and at the end all participants are told that they will be notified of the results and then are never notified only to find out later through a run in with parents involved in outside training that they were notified prior to the end of try outs that they made the team. (Match Fit). How do these organizations become Academies and does anyone follow up to make sure that their try out process is open and straight forward and they operate in an unbiased environment in order to maintain their Academy status?

Probably not. Life isn't always fair, but fortunately, there are several academy options now. Go to Gottschee or World Class. If your kid loves the game and is good then you probably can even save a ton of dough too! ...maybe even get on a better team.

I did get an email from Match Fit stating my kid did not make team.

Why are there no standings for U13/14 ('99/'00) Dev Academy teams like there is for '00
NEPL Academy teams? Seriously, what a pain in a$$.

Anonymous said...

Is it me or do the '00s look a lot weaker than '99s from last year?

NYRB at the top of the tables. Any surprise? In '00s MF is not as competitive this year after their breakup and Gottschee is close behind with their only loss to NYRB.

I'm surprised it is that close because the best '00s for Gottschee are not even on the academy team. 4 '00s from the two Gottschee club teams, Blue(NYE) and Roma(NJ) were called up for U14 National Team camp in Carson, CA. That may be more than their 2 academy teams? I'm pretty confident they would easily handle Redbull '00s if they played with the academy team.

Where in this article does it say 4 Gottschee players were selected?
http://www.ussoccer.com/news/u-14-national-development-program/2013/09/130927-lepore-calls-48-for-u14-ntc-camp.aspx
The 2 that are mentioned are also on the academy team and they played in the game vs. RBNY 00's - losing 3-1.
RBNY 00s are arguably the best team in the nation. No one will give them a scare during regular season play. All the good teams will battle for 2nd place - Gottschee, PDA, Westchester, etc

Anonymous said...

It doesn't! That article refers to the LAST camp already held. First, the idea that RBNY is the best team in the country at the age is silly. The '00 team is considerably weaker than their own '99 group last year. You are probably right that no NPL team will give them a scare as they go through the weak part of the schedule, but then again the Redbulls don't ever play TSF or Cedar Stars, nor the previous NPL champ MFC which disbanded and is part of Princeton Black and others, nor the Gottschee '00 national call-ups who won't be playing academy this season.

You are missing the point. Last year NYRB, PDA, MFC, Gottschee academy U13 teams were on a different level...dominant and clearly among the best teams in the country. They were way beyond anything at club level possibly except NYSC. This year that doesn't look to be true and anyone who has seen all of the teams above play as I have might point that out. Apparently, I am not the only one given the recent call-ups to national camp.

Why is Bethesda listed 2nd on the NPL standings? The NPL website has them 3rd?

Anonymous said...

They have the same points/game average score and there is no head to head meeting. Bethesda is ahead on goal differential. That would be the tie breaker sequence. I cannot comment on how the NPL website is currently ranking ties.

I am not sure if the 00's are weaker this year or not. But if they are weaker it is simply because the best 00's are playing with the U14 Academy teams. The USSF calls the shots now, telling teams who needs to play up. That is the reason why they took down the standings. They don't want teams caught up in wins and losses. They would rather have player development, which means playing up more 00's.

They should address subbing rules if they really want to get more kids playing. 5 subs per game ties the coach's hands and produces less playing time for kids.

Best of the Best of the Best? or the Best of the Best of the Best who try out.

Anonymous said...

LOL! That's funny and true.

Anonymous said...

SOME of the best '00s are playing with U14 teams. A couple also called up to national team in the past. Good point and you would have to bring them back into the mix to determine the best '00 team. There are also some not that great '00s on U14 rosters now too. It seems there is a push to get the younger kids experience so some of the academies like NYRB etc. have added some younger names to the roster that really aren't all that.

Anonymous said...

agreed SOME. I have seen lots of tremendous soccer players that are not playing for the academies too. A USSF scout attends every academy game and they do have a say in who plays up. They take notes on the players and the coaches and tell the coaches what the team is doing right and what it needs to work on.

Anonymous said...

All of the academies handle notifications in the same way. They first talk to the kids that are their first choices. If that kid decides to go with another team then they will ask another kid who tried out. So not everyone hears at the same time. They tell the kids that are their first choices and the kids who are not going to make it. If your kid was delayed it was probably because he was on the bubble and was an alternate.

Seacoast United edges ahead of Everton Westchester at U14!

I know NJSA has formed a number of "partnerships" in the past (Stalions?). But I recently saw a release that announced a new partnership with Cedar Stars Academy. I thought this one was a bit different as it seems to say that they will merger into a newly formed club named New Jersey Cedar Stars Academy (NJCSA).

So does this put Cedar Stars into the USSF Academy ranks?

Anonymous said...

Look out Redbulls '00. Cedar Stars '00 is better.

Anonymous said...

I think the redbulls are busy looking out for NYSC at U14.

Any color on Everton/FC Westchester? They seem to be doing very well.

Anonymous said...

Anybody know where new NJSA facility will be located?
Closer to Cedar Stars? Any thoughts on implications of new DA partnership?

NYRB continue to roll at U13 and U14! Can anyone stop them?

I do agree that you should see a player more than once before you can make a decision on him.
On the other hand, if a player is that good, it only takes him one session to stand out.
I am sure that if your kid had a good session, no academy would have passed up on him, even if they only saw him that one time.
But don't give up, if want your kid to play in an academy, contact the academy coach directly, I am sure they'll invite him to a practice or two.
Academy coaches are always looking for players, especially the ones that can add spark to their team.

Kids change a lot in just 6 months at this age. Besides I cannot tell you how many superstar dribblers have fallen by the wayside after puberty and stiffer competition in the last 2 years.

Anonymous said...

Redbulls U13/U14 DA team put a beat down on World Class. Some very unhappy parents there!

Anonymous said...

What happened to PDA '00s? If these are the kids that NYRB passed by then it looks like NYRB know what they are doing because most other '00 teams have passed them by too.

Anonymous said...

MF drops out of top 10 at U14 replaced by World Class getting on the board for the first time.

The two powerhouses look to be NYRB (of course) and Gottschee who sits 2nd at both age groups just behind NYRB. The Gottschee U14 team started off poorly after losing a lot of players to NYRB this season, but they have come roaring back in recent weeks to move into a 3 way tie on points for 2nd with NYSC who they just defeated head to head and only 1 goal behind MLS academy NE Revs on goal differential. This is especially interesting given that their two feeder club teams at the same age group...both on track to be #1 in NJ and NY...fielded 5 '00 players called up to U14 national team training camp. That is on the club side not even from the academy teams. Talk about firepower just waiting in the wings!

Anonymous said...

The above poster needs to take a chill pill. Gotchee a powerhouse? I don't think so. Excluding RB there is nothing between the top 5 or 6 teams. You have won nothing at this age level and that is a fact. As for your 5 '00s - better give the the gps details to the new RB facility as that is where they are heading.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like one of the many ex-Gottschee players getting upset that the team is still holding in well w/o them after their move to NYRB Academy? NYRB is the local pro team and star attraction, but it is hard to argue how deep the talent pool goes at Gottschee at these age groups. It is definitely an outlier.

Meanwhile, Gottschee U14s closed the goal differential gap with NE Revs this weekend (both won) while NYRB suffered their 1st imperfection. It wasn't a loss, but then again NYRB is the all star line-up.

Just a hunch, but I think they may already have those GPS details...right below the address to Man City's NYC FC.

Well for those who keep ranting about 00 Cedar Stars being better than the 00 Red Bulls. RB played them and destroyed the Cedar Stars 6-0 and it could have easily been a lot more. I watched the game and CS barely even crossed midfield. I can't recall them even getting a shot off the entire game. It looked like men amongst boys for real

I saw Cedar Stars earlier in the year and didn't think they were all that. For all hype about this team they should have been better. Not that I think the NYRB is all that either, but better then Cedar Stars. Bring Cedar Stars to the Pre-Academy league, so we can see what they are really made off.

Questions, was the game a scrimmage?

Anonymous said...

Yes the game was a scrimmage. I have seen the 00 RB play on numerous occasions and they have some really good players. They also have some very average players but tactically there is a big difference compared to many youth teams in this country including other academy teams. They may not have all the best players (at least at the younger age groups) but the understanding the players have and their movement off the ball and approach to how to play the game you don't see too often in this country at any level, especially the youth level. If you've seen their teams play from 13 on up they all play very similar and have a very distinct style of play. This is obviously not an accident. It seems that there is a big emphasis on PROPER build up play starting from the back and our an extremely possession oriented. However, they don't just possess the ball just to possess. There is purpose behind they're possession and it shows on the field. I agree there are definitely better players out there than what RB has but not that many better teams when it comes to playing the game (at least in this country). But I guess that's all relative.

Anonymous said...

Was it 8/00 and younger CSA vs. '00 calendar year NYRB? That can make a BIG difference around U13/U14. Or does CSA field a calendar year team themselves?

NYRB with a distinct style of play? Why doesn't that translate to the 1st team ever? You are starting to sound like Barca or the team on the 1st half of the video on the other page here. That's good. It probably means you are the only team in the area with that approach and it probably gives you a big leg up. Look what you did to the so-called #1 ranked team. Even the top teams all get there by collecting players rather than teaching them. I bet most kids on top 5 teams would give you a blank stare if you discussed movement off the ball with them.

Anonymous said...

I don't know the exact ages of their players at RB but I know they consist of players from 00-02.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of RBNY, I heard the NYRB '97 team was disqualified for age violations and PDA went on to represent them instead at Nationals. Is this true? Forgive me if this is old news, but that is a big deal.

Anonymous said...

Not true. It was due to a kid(s) not getting carded on time. It had nothing to do with age violations.

What has happened to Westchester Everton? Reached the regional finals in May and now have lost 8 games in a row. Something is wrong!

Anonymous said...

Obviously you are talking about '99s? '00s not a bad team.

Anonymous said...

yep 99s. very poor..

Anonymous said...

Well that's the downfall of a playoff system with a one and done setup. The best teams don't necessarily advance. Taking nothing away from their achievement but the 99 Westchester Everton nor 99 PDA (national champions) finished higher than 8 or 9 during the 12-13 regular season and barely qualified for the regional playoffs. Once in the playoffs they need to win 2 games to make it to the finals. Imagine how that can change the mentality of any team knowing they are so close to completely changing their season around by knowing they just need to win 2 games and all is forgotten.

Anonymous said...

I would agree with you to a point and there will always be one offs but even though they finished 8th PDA ended up winning 17 games in a row (including beating Red Bulls away) which kind of says they were the form team going into the play offs. Also going to nationals they beat some excellent competition including FC Dallas in the final. To your point though I also firmly believe that some of the teams at nationals had no right to be there and that Red Bulls and a few of the other teams from our region would have easily competed. It is clear now though at the U14 level that RB are the team to beat and to be honest having watched them play I would be very surprised if any team beats them this year. Too strong with little weakness in any position. That's the natural order of things and you would expect that an MLS academy has the very best as most of these kids have (in some cases) justifiable ambitions to play at a higher level. I am looking forward to the spring season though - if only some of this snow would melt we might actually get to train!

PDA U14 begins second half with a trouncing of NJSA. Don't count them out yet.

Anonymous said...

Why does TSF keep saying they're an academy? They're just an expensive soccer club.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know when the Red Bulls tryouts are being held?

Anonymous said...

There are no open tryouts. You must look at redbullsacademy.com and submit an application. You should also contact the team coach.

Drove Down To NJSA 04 U14 Today Where They Had Only 7 Players.

Well Done NJSA For Providing Quality Competion!

Anonymous said...

NJCSA or should I say NJSA flunkee's scouring the tournament sidelines this weekend looking for anyone to fill their empty roster spots. Nothing like a total lack of professionalism, when I doing my job your poaching and pitching your petty wares on my parents sidelines. Classless...

Anonymous said...

I can see that happening. Received a congratulation email last week informing my son that he made a team at NJSA. Oddest thing, he never even tried out. Assuming they have our email from registration and they don't have enough players to fill their roster. That club is flat-lining fast.

Anonymous said...

Quality players are leaving NJSA 04 in droves from all levels. That is a fact.

Anonymous said...

Three things to say on what njcsa is about, money, money money

Anonymous said...

NJCSA is a waste of your talent (first and foremost). Then comes everything else, including waste of your time and money.

The club is run by people that do not know how to teach anything to kids, have no skills in managing a club and are totally disorganized.

They will continue to exist as long as they manage to "cheat" US Soccer and keep the existing Academy status; Parents still pay so that they can say that their kids play for an "academy" team.

The only real academy teams in NJ are Red Bulls and PDA. They are managed professionally and they are actually teaching their kids something.

PDA and other top club teams are much better than the so called NJCSA "Academy" teams.
