SOCCER IQ

In this section, we hope to raise readers out of the day to day mud slinging in their respective blog groups and bring you instead interesting topics about youth development and quality soccer.

The following video is split basically into two. It is from what we believe is one of the best youth soccer coaches in the country and the first part demonstrates a well developed, possession based youth team. They are, according to the author, 1 in 1,000. The 2nd half is a team that is not well developed and represents the norm for youth soccer.

WHICH PART OF THE VIDEO DOES YOUR YOUTH TEAM LOOK MORE LIKE? SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS.

Even the top 10 teams in the state play like the 2nd half. I would agree. It IS the norm.

WOW! Great video. It is sad, but true. What does that say about NJ youth soccer development?

I don't know, but the lack of comments here suggest people care more about points, state cups , and bashing other parents than god soccer.

I like points and State Cups. And I don't a lot of bashing here which is great.

Do you really think this subject requires comment?

Yes, a lot more than comment.

I read a great book or at least a chapter in it today. David & Goliath from the same author as Outliers which is also an excellent sports book. Read the chapter about the Indian software entrepreneur in Silicon Valley who coached his daughter's 7ht/8th grade basketball team to the Jr Nationals. A little like the above team in the video...sort of. We could use more of that in NJ soccer!
